Number 10. That photo would look at home in National Geographic magazine. Pretty amazing IMO.

Here's my humble, unqualified opinion...

No1's subject is fantastic and in focus. All that lets the picture down is the background! Still good though

No2 is good, well thought out

No3 is a great idea, its just a shame about the tree behind the duck's head. In fairness it's hard to capture a moving subject so can't really nitpick on that :)

No4 is REALLY nice, my 2nd favourite overall. Great subject in a great position, makes me smile.

The spider photos are good, the detail on the 2nd is amazing. It would look great in a biology book but it's not appealing to me as a photo!

No7 is a nice frog, but somehow the focus isn't quite right. Would make a good subject though

No8 made me LOL hard, so I'm giving it 3rd place overall. Great smile factor.

No9 is a cute dog, but the picture seems a bit bleached? Background could be better.

No10 is utterly amazing! Tony pretty much summed it up perfectly, it does look like a totally professional picture in every way.

No11 is very nice too, the subject is perfect it just needs a better background

Now that's the kind of feedback I'd prefer to see in this section, and even more so for the comp voting thread. Posts such as "I'm voting for X coz it's ded gud y0!" just infuriate me.

Oh and there will be a couple of changes to the next round of the comp. Others have already been discussed, shorter shooting period and with the total comp including voting running for a calendar month, but the new one will be that all votes will be made visible.

What does this mean and why?

Basically the poll will be set to show who has voted for what, I'm not 100% sure if this will be visible to everyone or just staff I'll have to look into that. And the why is because Mike and myself were talking earlier and neither of us think that it's fair if people vote for their own entry. That's rigging and this is the easiest way we can think to stop it from occurring. Anyone caught voting for their own will simply lose that vote off that total votes for that comp, repeat offenders could face punishment...

Problem is with Meoxmix's breakdown, is that those who submit photos are a bit hard pressed to describe them, without being overly/underly praising their own. Also, how will you know who is voting for their own, as no-one publishes the photos with their name? Sure, you can take educated guesses dependant on style - I've got my guesses on who's is who's, but unless you get a list of who done what of Jay???

Also agree about people voting for their own. I won't do for mine, as I'd like to see if anyone actually likes my work :pmsl: But something may need to be done, although I would like to think most of us are adults and won't resort to doing this?
