A 400D can be picked up now, in good condition, with a kit lens for what...£210-£230 ish. The Sigma 70-300 go for £140-£170 in good condition on TheifBay, and the 18-125 are £250 brand new.
However, if you're basing it on what you're actually getting and use-ability, theres better deals out there TBH.
You'll have the 400D and the 18-55mm kit lens, so that takes care of the wider end of the scale, then you'll have the 70-300mm which takes care of the shallower end for those long shots, and then the 18-125 is just...plonked in the middle? Bit of a waste IMO.
If you can get a little bit more money together fella, i'd go after a second hand 450D, because theres some nifty upgrades in comparason to the 400D.
I'll await Sy to come along and pick my post apart though, as no doubt i've talked utter shit, and it's late.

Sigma 70-300 - £50-60(ish).
Sigma 18-125 - £150(ish).
2Gb CF card - £5.
Battery grip - £30.
Extra battery - £5.
Offer £400 and see what he says. Go to £450 max. It's not a bad deal at £500 tbh but for the money I'd be looking at the 450D with kit lens and build your collection from there as it's a much better camera and will plummit in price soon as the 500D is out now, if you can spring for the 500D do it as it's easily the best entry level DSLR on the market especially with HD (1080p) video capture.
