Simple.
Do we scrap the current forum and start afresh.... or do we basically us this one as it is now?
One vote....but please explain why you have voted for what you chose.

Like I said it's a new site so should be a new board. Lose all those that registered years ago to make one spam post and all the shite thats posted on here.
Oh and you might want to sticky this ;)

Stickyed!
Only concern I have is losing the base members.
However I'm usre most would sign back up

Start over. This is a very good site, but if you want to get rid of the things that hold it back then nuke it.

A sticked announcement or mass email will solve that problem. But I'm pretty confident that at the end of the day that all the base members already know that R2C will disapear soon and that they will have to use BTTOS so nothing to worry about.

New start, we can't step away from the Chav image, if we keep bringing it with us.

I've voted for keep it, simply because I'm fed up with signing up to more forums
Not very constructive comment, but to be honest having a fresh start won't affect things that much. Do it if you want to clear the cobwebs, Although are we keeping all the old posts still?
Mike H

I think the idea would be to scrap ALL the old posts and go from there?
The only thing I have is that there is some good stuff in some of the rooms.
Skippy
9th March 2006, 12:08 PM
keep the old forum as an archive possibly?
just make it so people cant post but you can read and link to it?

Is it possible to have an archived section where you could still access the old information but make it write protected?

I think thats going OTT personally.
Just archive general chat but leave the rest of the forums alone, there isn't really any spam except for general chat. No need to go postal on everything.

Would depend on how you want to do it. Easiest thing would be to stop new registrations, remove all users rights except admin, open up all the forums to be readable by all, turn off pruning and then just link over here. But you would require more then one database in your hosting package.
There are otherways but I can see it getting very complicated and tbh I doubt very many people would read over here after a week or two.

Fresh start would mean scrapping the lot IMO. And having a completely fresh start.
If we go for that I'll more than likely buy VBulletin.
Natty
9th March 2006, 12:19 PM
Fresh start lad, just give everyone plenty or warning (Sticky post, mass email, word of mouth etc etc) that all data may be gone so anything they need they should store themselves?
pyro
9th March 2006, 12:20 PM
Might as well do it properly. Nuke the whole thing. Old members who don't re-sign up, don't want to be members, so it makes no odds.
New software that's paid for might have fewer security holes, too. ;)

Scrap The Lot - New Image, New Site, New Start.
As everyone else has said - if people want to be part then they will re-register. If the site stays as popular then we will build up the topics in a few weeks again.
Downside - Matt Bukkake will be LMAO/PMSL/ROFL all over the screen to build his post count back up.

Will be a shame to lose some real quality posts that have been made, although from another view, its a new site.....new forum. if its easy enough to sign up again i dont mind
Mike H
9th March 2006, 12:42 PM
I agree with the opinion that the people who are worth while will come back and re sign up.
pyro
9th March 2006, 01:16 PM
I'm wondering what these 'really quality' posts are, that we're going to be losing?
Some of the stickies could just be copied and pasted across.

sounds like a fresh start is the best idea! not really been around long enough to comment but as natty said if your after moving away from the old image then a fresh start with BTTOS is what is needed!
mattbuk
9th March 2006, 02:33 PM
lol scrap the whole lot then...just it looks alot better having a few thousand members then a few hundred...fair enough they dont all post but it looks good.
Mike H
9th March 2006, 02:34 PM
I know mate, but in honesty I reckon we'd get about 400-500 back in the first couple of weeks on a new board from the mass email I'd send out using this database.
pyro
9th March 2006, 02:43 PM
Is R2C vanishing any time soon, or can a redirect/notice be put on it? If so, I wouldn't even bother with a mass mailout. It only draws the attention of those pricks who don't even visit the site. Those who do and who I expect you'd want to keep as members, should already know what's going on.

It will be very soon Pete.
However.... will see about a selective mail out ;)

I voted keep the old stuff, however if it is possible to just archive the old forums & write protect them I would choose that option.
Whatever you choose neither will be the wrong decision.

Basically if things go to how they were originally planned the old forum will be kept. If I'm forced to change then we will start new.

I voted to keep it, good site as it is :D also startin a new one mike may cause aload of hassle and stress that you may not need
little miss naughty
10th March 2006, 07:46 AM
i think that the board should have nothing on it but keep all the accounts of the people but not adding the people who have never added or do a couple of post over the years
i think we should have nothing in the topics and start that bit a fresh

Might disappoint a few people but the forum database is staying.
Sorry but I don't know what I'd do without the skippys coming back for more abuse
Nah in all seriousness, 2 years worth of content and data is a lot to banish overnight.... although we are trying to shed the chav name, we are not starting afresh, more evolving IMHO.
Martine

Scrap it all.
copy over stickies or make sure new ones are started eg car shows etc

I'm in total agreement with you on those points ! But is it through trying to do this that you are struggling to get the new site up and running ?
If it is, then sacrafices have to be made....
Everybody knows the change is well overdue ! So everbody should appreciate that to move forward, we have to shed a pit of excess baggage ! (Unfortunatly fish will probably find us again ! )

What about keeping that SQL tables but redesigning the forums? Losing the sections that don't get much traffic and moving the more popular sections (Like pics and videos) further to the top?
