I am looking to get back into the DSLR scene and i am looking to save for a bigger camera but i am unsure which make to go for. I have been Canon since i got into cameras but i hear alot of good things about Nikon!!
Which would you go for and why? I am looking at say the 50d for Canon or the D90 for Nikon or the same price range for of the 50d (about £900-1000)
All help is appreciated too... :D

Honest answer go and try them both as you may not like one. It's all personal preference really I never did that and I'd got a canon I then used my mates nikon and I like it more - learn from my mistakes

Yea its just i have been handed Canon so i stuck with it, i wouldnt mind learning a new camera if it was better. Saying that the D90 is £200 cheaper than the 50d!!

Bodies mean fuck all. It's the glass that you put infront of them that counts.
Unless you're going full frame then I wouldn't worry about it. Get a cheap body and some decent, fast glass.

I think i might look into the 4** and 5** series canon's they seem to be going pretty cheap now compaired to what they were say a year ago!!
I really wanted a 50d though :( lol

get a 2nd hand 50d body mate? If you get it from canons ebay shop you get warranty and guarantee its a full and proper refurb.

Sony alpha is still quite cheap and not too bad it's what I use and iirc what Jaffa uses, I'd prefer a Nikon though as they just feel a bit nicer, don't know if there's much in it though.

I was playing with the D5000 today at work and i just dont like the feel of the Nikon, when it focus's you can't tell when its moving on the lense. With the Canon cameras you can tell when it is focusing and its a more mechanical feel which i prefer.
Mike Do you have a link to Canon's eBay page?? I will have a gand at them actually...

I will keep my eye on it to see if i can find any 40d or 50d's going cheap on the refurb. Thats a quality place to buy stuff from though!!!

I've said it before and i'll say it again, canon and nikon are so 2008. theres much better built bodys out there, if you think picture quality will be better on one camera or the other, you're wrong.
buy a cheaper body, save some money, then buy some nice glass..

The 40D is a nice camera to use, I enjoy mine anyway. With it being a metal body, it feels a lot firmer than the xxx bodied Canon's, it's bigger and fits into your hands better. Coupled with some decent glass, you've got lots of potential. Can pick them up now for about £400 second hand IIRC.
