Had an hour out last night with Beaver & Grant to shoot a few long exposures at Shaw Quarry.
Snapped this, which I'm far from happy with, but another attempt is gunna be made.
Canon 40D, 18-55mm IS Lens @ 20mm, ISO100, 300 second exposure @ F22.

I've taken a few long exposures before and never had noise/grainy-ness occur, so i've done something wrong here, just a case of getting back up there and trying to find out what.
C&C welcome as always.

I love the effect, really do. This is where Im limited with my 'bridge camera' as I have a max exposure of 60sec @F8

I can't see it, blocked at work, but with a 300 sec exposure, you're BOUND to get some grainyness at night when it's very dark mate. Especially with all the shit in the air at the quarry.

LM, looking at that now I'm going to put it down to all the streetlighting. It's bound to cause noise. If you look at all my long exposures, there's no lighting like this present:
(Don't mean to topic hi-jack, but showing as an example)

The one up Winter Hill with the car in the shot has the most lighting and for that very reason I seriously over exposed that shot to get a more dynamic range of lighting then darkened it in Lightroom. Also try to noise reduction in Lightroom, it's REALLY effective.

Get yourself a DSLR fella, you'll never look back, it really is an addictive hobby.
