i got the nikon d40 slr because im a beginner and could not afford anything with a realy high spec . i had a play with it in the shop and it was more easyer to use than the overs that were on a budget price.
i have noticed thay are quite common probably for the same resons of mine

Some nice shots in there. Number three stands out for me.
One bit of advice I'd give is to check your exposure and also adjust your shutter speed to match what you are shooting, the waterfall for instance could of done with the shutter staying open slightly longer to give the feel of the water flowing. Also ensure that your horizon is straight with landscape work.
Jon the D40 is a nice beginners DSLR by Nikon and for what it is it's cheap too. The Canon equivalent is the 1000D. Great for begineers, but quickly grown out of. Major problem for me with the D40 would be the lack of on board AF motor, meaning that there are fewer lens available for it and those that are, are more expensive. That said though Canon haven't used an on board AF motor for many years...just that the supply of lens is already there and it's consistant throughout the range.

You clown.
That's a setting you can have so it shows you the areas over-exposed lol.
take a picture then in preview click up and down to scroll through the different viewing modes, the flashing over exposure is one lol.
