OK, decided to start up a project thread so people can see how things in the 205 world are coming along.

I bought the car in Oct 2007 after seeing it advertised on eBay:

It was completely and utterly standard. the wheels had been powdercoated gold at one point  and then had a shockingly shite refurb on them. there was a few problems, like the windows rolling down when driving, hesitating sometimes, and a small (read as 4" x 4"0 hole in the inner wing which i didnt notice til I got it home.

Anyways, as it was a non-sunroof model, the shell was in very good condition, albeit with some parking rash, the rear beam was ok with no camber, and a 115bhp model, a deal was struck and I drove it home.

Then I started noting bits and bobs I wanted to sort. The backbox was blowing a little and a standard pipe just doesnt sound meaty enough, so a quick call to my wilmslow connection saw me land this for all of £10

up on the ramps it went

and Geoff at CSG did the biz for me

Made it much better from the off and I was pleased with the sound :D Then, I decided to ditch the original air filter set up for an induction kit, but routed properly behind the headlight for cold air. make a difference on late night blasts.

Then, me and Nath decided, as the MOT was 2 days away, I better sort the hole in the inner wing

a piece of Punto bonnet made good the menatl needed and it was welded in place

Car flew through the MOT, with the chap well pleased with how an 18yr old GTi had faired up to the weather and abuse

Next on the list was to replace the bottom engine mount with a Grp N item, solid polyurethane. makes the drive much better, less "kangarooing" that the 205s are renound for in the cold. gear changes are much slicker too.

Then the drivers CV was starting to moan, so I just replaced the full shaft. At least i know that its all been done then, and it is under warrenty too.

Last week i decided to lower the car, but made a bit of a hash of it. I put the 50mm springs on from a 1.9 GTi, which means about 70mm on the 1.6. I also forgot to put the bumpstops back on  So, for two days (until it was dry enough to work on it) I drove round scaraping and banging away. Since then I have replaced the bumpstoms and the droplinks and its sitting much nicer and handling lots better. I would say its about a 40mm drop now. I will update with pics as and when.

So.............. plans for the future I hear you cry?

Well, I dont want to go wild and make loads of plans, only to sell it on in a month or so, but I am actually quite enjoying the pug. The 1600 is a tad gutless at top end, but 20-70mph is just an absolute h00t. I love thrashing through every gear, nailing the redline and popping and banging my way down country lanes. However, the call of an MI16/GTi-6 engine is never that far away, so you never know.

Deffinate plans for the near future though are as follows:

1. Grp N top mound and gearbox mount
2. New cluch cable (its squeaking)
3. New bottom arms (already have passenger)
4. New passenger driveshaft
5. Lower rear beam 30mm
6. Refurb wheels when I decide on colour scheme

So, I will update when I get round to taking more pics/doing bits and bobs

Quick update:

Got bored of this reflective panel thing on the boot, it just looked a little chavvy to me:

So, a quick scour of eBay and a nippy blart across the hills to Holmfirth saw me bag this new slatted panel for £5, inc the pug and 205 badges:

Ordered me a new GTi badge too:
